Canberra to Sydney Bike Ride | A bucket list achievement
Cycling from Canberra to Sydney for two days is a thrilling and challenging adventure for anyone who loves cycling. The route that we took has a total distance of approximately 345 kilometres, which took us through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia. We completed the journey in two days because we all want to take it easy and enjoy the company of each other.
This ride requires careful planning, preparation, and determination.
Day 1: Canberra to Bundanoon (160km)
The first day of the journey starts in Canberra, the capital city of Australia, and it takes you to Bundanoon, the southern highlands of New South Wales. The route is mostly flat, with some hilly sections, and offers stunning countryside views.
The journey starts at Parliament House at around 6 am of Saturday (April 22, 2023) where we go straight to the Federal highway. From there, the route takes you through the beautiful rural areas of Sutton and Lake George. You will pass by some charming country towns, farms, and vineyards, offering you a glimpse of rural life in Australia.
After cycling for approximately 160 kilometres and more than 6 hours of cycling, we all arrived safe and smiling in Bundanoon, where we rested for the night. Bundanoon offers many accommodation options, including hotels, motels, and camping sites. We choose to stay in the historic Bundanoon Hotel where we have few beers and plan the ride for the next day.
Day 2: Bundanoon to Sydney (190KM)
The second day of the journey is longer and more challenging, but it takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia. The route takes you through the Southern Highlands, offering stunning views of the rolling hills, forests, and waterfalls. We passed some charming towns, such as Mittagong, Bowral, and Moss Vale.
From the Southern Highlands, the route takes you through the Macarthur region, which is known for its rich history and agricultural heritage. You will cycle through some beautiful farmlands, orchards, and vineyards, offering you a glimpse of the rural life in Australia.
The final leg of the journey takes you to Sydney, the largest city in Australia, and one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world. The route takes you through some of the most iconic landmarks of the city, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House.

Special thanks to our SAG vehicle Drivers, Charles, Edward and Benny. Without them, this ride was not possible at all. They carry our food and bags and provided us with laughter and jokes. They are true legends!
As for me, this is a bucket list ticked and a mission accomplished by raising money thru the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul for families who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
