With Perseverance and Determination, Anything is possible
About 6 months ago, I remembered that cycling for 10KM is a hard thing to do.
Today, I managed to complete a 143KM ride within 6 hours with 1583M elevations. This is my longest ride so far and I absolutely love the experience.
How did I end up in Road Cycling?
My road cycling adventure started about 6 months ago when I realized that I reach 98KG due to lockdown. Noticing that my mood swing affects my family and my work, I have to do something about it to change the situation.
First, I tried intermittent fasting but then I felt that what I am doing makes me feel weaker and less energized — maybe I am not doing it properly.
Going back to my younger years, I was a very active person. I have been cycling since I was 8 using friends’ bikes and I got my first bike when I was 10.
So I tried riding again using my old Trek Roscoe 8 MTB. MTB is awesome because I can easily go to the nearby MTB park from my house. Doing this, I managed to shed a couple of KGs. But then again, my weight loss stopped. I got really tired and frustrated about it.
I remembered a friend of mine who is selling a Trek Road Bike. I thought that I would try an RB knowing that based on my friend’s experience, they managed to lose alot of weight.
I was not really comfortable riding a road bike. I have been thinking that a road bike on a highway is very dangerous. But then, at this point of my life, I always tell myself that “you only live once Mike!”
So, I decided to get the bike from my friend with the hope that this will ultimately help me lose more weight.
Road Cycling benefits for me
And the rest was history. Road Cycling indeed help me lose weight where I managed to cut my weight from 98KG to 78KG at one point, but I think I am more comfortable at 80KG right now. The best thing is that I really enjoyed each ride.
The experience of training hard and pushing my body to reach another level of physical sacrifices is a really humbling experience. The experience teaches me to be patient and just continue to grind because pain is just temporary.
This experience proves that just like anything in life, with dedication, determination, and perseverance, everything is possible.
Thanks to this bunch of cool guys from WPCC that helped me today. You guys are awesome!
